Star Family Restaurant in Murdo

We very disappointed in this restaurant. Although the service was great, the food was not. We could have gone to any restaurant but picked them after reading some of their reviews. We went in expecting to see homemade fries and buffalo burgers but instead what we got was a frozen sculpted meat patty that was over cooked and decorated with condiments and frozen french fries ... all for the hefty price of $12.95 EACH and the advertised online price was $7.95 each. When we brought the price discrepancy to their attention, their comment was something to the effect of ...that's what gets people in here!! We would never recommend this restaurant and now you know the pricing and quality of food both stink!!

Great food, great staff, great prices, great owner!

Great service and hometown feel. Fed my kids 3 and 4) and myself breakfast with the stuffed hash browns and a tall stack of pan cakes. We split a cinnamon roll. God's place to see. Such a hometown feel they had a pair rollerblades for sale at the register. So awesome!

The people and the food were amazing

Good, quick stop for vittles and gas. Family style restaurant with great salad bar. Vintage booths for seating. Awesome broccoli cheese soup. Enough space for 5th wheel parking. Kid friendly menu. Friendly staff.

Step back in time at this small town cafe just off the highway! 😍 We stopped for breakfast and were treated to “homemade biscuits & gravy, eggs and French toast. All served by a very friendly & attentive waitress. You’ll feel like you’ve been transported back to the 50’s. Prices are modern though 😜

If you're passing through Murdo, this is the place to eat. Excellent food, friendly and fast service. Everyone in our group found something they enjoyed, from vegetarian to carnivore. Prices were a little spendier than one might expect, but portions were large and it was good. We've stopped other places in Murdo and paid more for worse food and nasty service. We'll definitely be stopping again when passing through Murdo.

The food is a 5star,made from scratch, the staff was slow but they just opened back up in early june is what i heard but even still awsome

Excellent food. As others have said, service is kind of slow, but still a good place to stop for lunch off the highway. I think $7 for a kids meal is kind of steep, but includes a drink and a scoop of ice cream.

Best pancakes ever ! Such sweet and friendly people

I am from MN and came thru driving back home from the Black Hills. We stopped for lunch and they have amazing food and friendly service. Fresh and homemade! The place doesn't look too great on the outside, but the food and service definitely makes up for it! Very pleased and will be back when I take trips to SD!

Travelling from Ohio and the food was very good. Our waitress Jonah was very sweet! Great little restaurant!

Wife ordered house fries got hash browns, I ordered white toast got wheat, food was cold when got it. Took two dollars off for mistakes. New cook was blamed but where is their trainer or boss? Would not recommend.

I'm driving cross country from Philadelphia to Seattle, and stopped by for lunch after Google told me there was a restaurant 30minutes away.I'll be completely honest... This place doesn't look like anything special from the road, and looks even less impressive inside. But don't worry about esthetics, the food it really good. They do it well here.

Best breakfast from a diner I’ve had in a long time. Drove for miles and miles looking for a place to eat on a trip to Mount Rushmore and looked this place up online and it looked good, so I thought I’d try it. Reasonably priced, clean, and cool 50s decor - all original! If you want a great place to stop at for breakfast or a good meal this place can’t be beat!

Our waitress was very attentive and kept the coffee flowing. She brought extra napkins before we had to ask. Food was good. We ordered oatmeal with a sausage patty and.the 3 Deuces. Plenty of food to eat. We were very pleased overall with our experience.

This was great! Kind of a retro diner atmosphere. Very clean. Good food. Staff was very friendly and welcoming.

We originally had planned to stop at a nearby sub shop connected to the truck stop near the interstate, but the line was out the door. Not wanting to wait, we drove down a side road a bit and found Star Diner. The inside is very dated--a step back into the 1960s(?), but the down-to-earth servers made up for it. They made you feel right at home. The food was good and came out quickly. Definitely family friendly.

Forget the tourist traps and stop in Murdo! Nice town and great restaurant with exceptional breakfast. Locals all greeting each other as they come in and friendly waitresses.

Probably my favorite place to eat, ever. I talk about the salad bar all year around. We only go here on our way to Sturgis.

Food was a good value for the price. Larger portions than most places. Food was decent, not great. Soft drinks are in cans, so no refills. Kids meals come with scoop of ice cream, which was nice.

Home cooking at its finest. Breakfast all day. Friendly service. I will be back.
